A beautiful 1945-P Jefferson nickel from the Philadelphia mint shows bright, satiny surfaces and rich detail. This example bears the MS64 designation from NGC. This near gem uncirculated example is the last year of the silver “War Nickels” denoted by the prominent mint mark above Monticello on the reverse. Deprived of nickel, which was key to the war effort, the mint resorted to an alloy of 35% silver, 9% manganese, and 56% copper for the years 1942-1945.
