A near mint state example of the 1922 Ulysses S. Grant commemorative half dollar graded AU58 by NGC.  The coin was issued in 1922 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Union Civil War General and 18th President of the United States, Ulysses S. Grant.  The Grant commemorative was extremely popular, however nearly one quarter of the 95,055 minted coins went unsold and were later melted, leaving only 67,405 coins in circulation.  Many of the early commemoratives, such as this entered into circulation and gem uncirculated examples are uncommon. This coin is a great example of a lightly circulated Grant half dollar, retaining rich detail and good definition.
