A stunning, deep red-orange copper gem 1909 VDB Lincoln cent from the Philadelphia mint. This superior gem example is graded MS66 Red by NGC. Examples of the 1909 VDB cent are uncommon in MS66 Red condition and are extremely rare in higher grades. NGC lists only about 100 examples graded higher. The 1909 VDB Lincoln cent is perhaps the most well known of the Lincoln cents. Public uproar with the prominent display of the designer's initials on the reverse (VDB) led to an abbreviated mintage but secured the VDB Lincoln cent a lasting place in history and in collector’s hearts.
