A gorgeous rarity from the Charlotte mint - flashy fields and well struck details for a Charlotte issue. Only 10,220 quarter eagles were struck by the Charlotte mint in 1849. Traded heavily in local commerce, few of the Charlotte issues survived and most survivors today show appreciable wear. Graded AU58 by NGC. PCGS and NGC together list only approximately 200 graded examples in total, with only 12 collectively graded finer than this example. An outstanding example for a southern branch mint collector.
