1840-C Liberty Quarter Eagle AU55 NGC

(No reviews yet) Write a Review

Graded AU55 by NGC.  A gorgeous rarity from the Charlotte mint. Only 12,822 quarter eagles were struck by the Charlotte mint in 1840, the first year of the liberty head design.  Traded heavily in local commerce, few of the Charlotte issues survived and most survivors today show appreciable wear.  PCGS and NGC together list only approximately 300 graded examples in total, with only 36 collectively graded finer than this example.
